7/25/2010 - Tony Hayward to quit BP

BP is planning to announce the departure of chief executive Tony Hayward alongside its half-year financial results on Tuesday. The BP boss will be replaced by Bob Dudley, who is currently overseeing the oil spill operation in the Gulf of Mexico. The exit of Hayward, who has been vilified by American politicians since the 20 April blowout on the Deepwater Horizon rig, is the second dramatic change of Cheap Jordan Shoes leadership at BP in less than four years. Lord Browne, Hayward's predecessor, left the oil group after a spat with the then chairman, Peter Sutherland, and a sinking of the share price after the Texas City refinery fire. Hayward, 52, is today locked in meetings with the rest of the BP board about the final details of his financial leaving package, but he is expected to go under basic contractual terms. That means a one year's £1m pay package but a giant pension pot of over £10m, capable of paying out more than half a million pounds a year from the formal retirement age of 60. BP continues to insist that "Tony Hayward remains chief executive", and any change to this Air Jordan 13 will be formally announced through the Stock Exchange. The company had privately insisted that Hayward was working on a fightback to try to salvage his own reputation and that of a company that was once the largest on the London stock market. But as the week drew on and a "new BP" strategy began to take shape, both Hayward and other board members began to realise that the US business and brand could only be salvaged under a change of guard. Dudley is seen as the best candidate because he is a US citizen with a very strong track record at BP and previously at Amoco. He lost out on the position to Hayward but in recent months has been called on to give credibility to the Air Jordan 14 Gulf clean-up operation. Dudley was best-known as chief executive of the Russian business TNK-BP, where he performed well until being forced to flee the country in what many observers saw as a Kremlin-inspired campaign to destabilise BP there and put it under more Russian control. 7/19/2010 - HONG KONG/SHANGHAI, July 16 (Reuters) - China's key stock index was down 1.2 percent by midday Friday in thin volume, led by banks and construction companies, after China Shipbuilding Industry Co (601989.SS) announced a private share placement worth

BOSTON ¡ª Baseball¡¯s schedule-makers create any number of twists in the course of a season. But on Air Jordan Sale Thursday, they unintentionally outdid themselves. The Red Sox returned to action after the All-Star break one day before the Yankees did and as a result ended up honoring George Steinbrenner with a moment of silence before the Yankees could stage their own tribute in the Bronx on Friday. The Red Sox¡¯ tribute, which also saluted Bob Sheppard, the Yankees¡¯ public-address announcer for more than half a century, created some unusual theater at Fenway Park. Here were 37,000 mostly die-hard Red Sox fans in effect silenced one last time by Steinbrenner, whose Yankee teams had often prevailed over Boston in his 37 years as owner. During the tribute, players from the Red Sox and the Texas Rangers stood in unison in front of their Cheap Jordan Shoes dugouts, their caps off, their heads bowed. A military honor guard marched out to center field. Images of both Steinbrenner and Sheppard rang out from the scoreboard. For the moment, all those awful memories of Bucky Dent¡¯s home run in 1978, of Aaron Boone¡¯s crusher in 2003, were put aside. Fans trained since birth to boo the Yankees instead summoned up a warm round of applause. In the long, fierce history of this rivalry, it had to rank as a remarkable moment. ¡°He¡¯s a human being and deserves to be honored,¡± Bud Parrine, a Red Sox fan who saw Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio play at Fenway Park in the 1940s, said before the game, a sentiment that seemed to be shared by his fellow fans. ¡°That doesn¡¯t mean we love him, but we respect him. There¡¯s competition, but also decency.¡± His son, Tom, sitting with him in the center-field stands at Fenway, added that Steinbrenner Basketball Shoes spent so much money on players over the years that he ultimately motivated the Red Sox to improve as well. ¡°He worked the system to its fullest,¡± Tom Parrine said. ¡°He probably provided fuel to the fire. Without him, the Red Sox may not be as good.¡± Tom Werner, the chairman of the Red Sox, echoed that sentiment. The only way the Red Sox were going to win a World Series was to overcome the Yankees, he said, and that meant finding a way to beat the Yankees at their own game. The Red Sox finally did in 2004, beating the Yankees in four straight games in the American League Championship Series after losing the first three. It was a historic comeback and the Red Sox then went on to win their first championship in 86 years. ¡°George elevated our rivalry and was a great competitor and a very important person in baseball Air Jordan 2010 because he made the Yankee brand a lot stronger than when he took over the team,¡± Werner said. The bombast that made Steinbrenner so famous was greatly diminished in recent years, but fittingly, perhaps, some of his last genuine outbursts were directed at Boston. 7/11/2010 - Expelled Western spies 'staying undercover in UK hotel'

The brother of one, Igor Sutyagin, said he had called his wife from a small town on the edge of London, but had not been told exactly where he was. The four US spies were swapped for 10 Russian agents who admitted in the US to being agents for a Air Jordan 2010 foreign country. Meanwhile Britain is "urgently reviewing" whether to deprive Russian spy Anna Chapman of her UK passport. Last week her lawyer said she would like to come to the UK as she has a passport through her former marriage. The spy swap was carried out in Vienna last week, after which it was reported that two of the four US spies were flown to England. BBC diplomatic correspondent James Robbins said the two, who were convicted of spying for the West, were apparently being supervised by British minders who were "clearly keen to keep their location secret". Mr Sutyagin had called his wife in Russia, telling her he was in a small town on the outskirts of London but hadn't been told anything more, according to his brother Dmitry. Mr Sutyagin was apparently given an untraceable telephone calling card to make the call. His brother added he Michael Jordan Shoes was hoping he would be given a British visa while he considered what to do next. British connections were alleged by Russian prosecutors at the trials of at least two of the men, including Mr Sutyagin. He was convicted of passing information about submarine and missile systems to a UK firm allegedly used as a front by the CIA. The nuclear specialist had served 11 years of a 15-year sentence in the Arkhangelsk region of northern Russia when he was included in the spy swap. He has always maintained his innocence. A second man, Sergei Skripal, was convicted of passing the identities of Russian intelligence agents working undercover in Europe to the UK's Secret Intelligence Service (commonly known as MI6). British husband Ms Chapman, 28, worked in the MBT Shoes financial sector for a few years after moving to London in 2002. Earlier this month Briton Alex Chapman, 30, from Bournemouth, Dorset, talked to a newspaper about his four-year marriage to the Russian. He said they had met at a party in London in 2002 and married five months later. Following the spy swap a UK Home Office spokesperson said they were reviewing Ms Chapman's passport situation. "The home secretary has the Air Jordan right to deprive dual nationals of their British citizenship where she considers that to do so would be conducive to the public good. This case is under urgent consideration," they said. Shadow Home Secretary Alan Johnson said it "cannot be in our interests" to let her settle in the UK.

7/8/2010 - "American Idol" Joins List of Shortened Summer Tours

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The "American Idol" U.S. tour was cut short by two weeks on Wednesday, less than a MBT Tembea week after it kicked off, joining artists ranging from the Jonas Brothers to the Eagles who have pulled out of summer dates. Eight scheduled shows by the Top 10 "Idol" finalists, including winner Lee DeWyze and runner-up Crystal Bowersox , were dropped and others dates re-scheduled, according to concert promoters Live Nation. The tour, which started on July 1, will now end on August 31 instead of September 16. "American Idol" publicists declined to comment on the reasons. The move follows what was considered a lackluster season of the Fox television singing contest, which lost about nine percent of its audience this year. So far only DeWyze and Bowersox have signed record deals. Christina Aguilera, Rihanna , John Mayer, Limp Bizkit and the all-female Lilith Fair have all either cut short or canceled tours this summer, with scant explanations. Billboard magazine recently cited high ticket prices and resistance to service fees. Online ticket booking sites can add more than $20 per ticket to the published price. Other tours are MBT Casual Men's thought to have suffered from lack of promotion or little new material. Last week, Disney Channel boy band "The Jonas Brothers" dropped some 20 dates in the United States, but added concerts in Mexico and South America. "If we're missing your city, please know that we love you and we will be back soon," the band said in a statement. 7/7/2010 - Ford's Mulally named to export council

Washington -- President Barack Obama today named Ford Motor Co. president and CEO Alan Mulally to a presidential council on exports. The White House MBT Shoes also named two other Michigan executives, Stephanie A. Burns, chairman, president and CEO of Dow Corning, and Andrew N. Liveris, president, chairman and CEO of Dow Chemical, to the President's Export Council. The council includes a group of business and labor leaders who will offer advice on how to promote U.S. exports, jobs and growth. A White House report released this morning said exports in the first four months of 2010 grew almost 17 percent from the same period last year. Obama praised the executives who agreed to serve on his council. "My administration has Discount MBT Shoes worked to improve advocacy for our exporters, remove trade barriers and enforce trade rules in an effort to ensure that the benefits of global trade are broadly shared. And to build on the progress we've made so far, I've appointed these accomplished men and women to serve in these important roles. I am confident that their depth of experience in the private sector will be valuable as we continue working to open new markets for American goods, boost our exports and level the playing field for American workers," Obama said in a statement. In March, Obama named Boeing Co. President and CEO W. James McNerney Jr. as chair of the President's Export Council -- a group first created in 1973 by executive order. He also named Xerox Corp. CEO Ursula Burns as vice chair. The president's council has 28 private sector members, along with congressional and executive branch members. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing, is among the members. She was named in March. "We need to be exporting our products, not our jobs," Stabenow said. "Without addressing the needs of our manufacturers in our trade policies, we will continue to MBT Sale lose millions of jobs to countries like China, which misaligns its currency and blocks our exports." Mulally isn't expected to attend an event today introducing the council because Ford's board of directors has a regularly scheduled meeting. But Mulally had lunch at the White House last week with Obama and four other business leaders. Obama wants to double U.S. exports within five years. 7/5/2010 - World stocks steady amid worries over US recovery

LONDON ¡ª World stocks were steady Monday amid worries that the economic recovery in the U.S. will slow down, with trading light as Wall Street was due to remain closed for the Independence Day long weekend. A disappointing Nike Air Max jobs report from the U.S. on Friday suggested the world's largest economy is stuttering, while other figures indicate China ¡ª which booked good growth during the recent years of financial and economic turmoil ¡ª could also slow down. European markets found some support in a report showing retail sales in the region rose modestly in May. By early afternoon European time, the British FTSE 100 was flat at 4,836.28, as was Germany's DAX, at 5,834.21. France's CAC-40 was down 0.3 percent at 3,340.00. Asian markets were mixed at the close, with the Shanghai index down but Japan's Nikkei up. "Growth fears have in particular been centered on the U.S. in the wake of a run of Air Max 2010 disappointing data," said Mitul Kotecha, an analyst at Credit Agricole. While some investors may be quietly buying back into the market after heavy losses last week, overall sentiment is cautious. Besides the weak jobs data, U.S. indicators have recently shown a drop in home sales, a fall in consumer confidence and a slide in manufacturing activity. That spooked investors already fretting over the European debt crisis and its impact on major trading partners like the U.S. and in Asia. Though volumes are expected to remain light, with trading closed in the U.S., European indexes were buoyed slightly by a report showing eurozone retail sales rose 0.2 percent on the month in May. Despite the rise, consumer spending in Europe remains well below long-term averages and is considered a weak link in the 16-nation eurozone's recovery. Howard Archer, an economist at IHS Global Insight, noted the rise in May did not make up for a sharper 0.9 percent slump in April. "The signs are hardly encouraging for any significant sustained pick up in the near term at least," he said. In Asia, some Air Max 2009 investors worried that massive bank lending in China last year, intended to support Beijing's stimulus program, may spark a wave of defaults. Chinese companies that overspent on factories and other assets may be unable to repay their debts. Also, local government finance agencies borrowed heavily for infrastructure and other projects, and the World Bank and Chinese regulators say lenders might face losses if those agencies default. Premier Wen Jiabao, China's top economic official, said over the weekend its recovery is facing more problems than expected. Indicators from manufacturing to auto sales suggest economic growth might slow. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 18.95 points, or 0.8 percent, to close at 2,363.95, the lowest level in 15 months. Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 stock index added 63.07 points, or 0.7 percent, to 9,266.78. Kazuhiro Takahashi, an equity strategist at Daiwa SMBC Securities Co. Ltd., said the Nikkei climbed on bargain-hunting following earlier losses. "Investors chased gains in exporters, but many took a wait-and-see stance as the U.S. financial markets are closed Monday," Takahashi said. "The disappointing U.S. jobs report was a fresh sign that the pace of the U.S. economic recovery is slower than expected." South Korea's Kospi MBT Shoes increased 0.2 percent, to 1,675.37, and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was down 0.4 percent at 4,222.1. Elsewhere, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 0.3 percent to 19,842.20. Markets in Taiwan and New Zealand edged up. Investors in Asia were also reluctant to chase gains after the Dow Jones industrial average fell 46.05 points, or 0.5 percent, to 9,686.48 Friday, the seventh straight day of decline. It was also the longest losing streak since the height of the financial crisis in October 2008. In currencies, the dollar rose to 87.76 yen from 87.70 yen in New York late Friday. The euro declined to $1.2527 from $1.2556. Benchmark crude for Discount MBT Shoes August delivery was up 17 cents to $72.31 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. 6/30/2010 - Petraeus' confirmation hearing is a breeze

Reporting from Washington ¡ª Army Gen. David H. Petraeus sees almost everything important in life as a contest of wills. His confirmation hearing Tuesday, however, was no contest at all. Only minutes after the Nike Air Jordan opening gavel, it was clear that the event would be a romp. No matter what their position on the war in Afghanistan, senators extolled his credentials and patriotism. Petraeus, meanwhile, expounded on counterinsurgency, usually without challenge. Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) signaled early in the three-hour hearing that Petraeus would not have to worry about the Senate blocking his nomination to take command in Afghanistan. "You're not allowed to presume confirmation, by the way," Levin said, explaining a Senate tradition. "But I am." Laughter rippled through the packed hearing room. Levin turned out to be right: The Senate committee voted to confirm Petraeus as the new U.S. military commander in Afghanistan late Tuesday, only hours after his testimony ended. The full Senate is to vote Wednesday. Petraeus, credited with turning around U.S. fortunes in Iraq, has a stature unmatched by any military officer of his Air Max Shoes generation. It assured him of easy confirmation after President Obama named him last week to replace Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, who was ousted over disparaging comments about civilian officials in a Rolling Stone magazine article. Petraeus was careful not to overstep his bounds, especially at a time when the White House is sensitive about generals who show up the president. The atmosphere in the hearing room became giddy, and at one point that Petraeus played down tensions between the military and Vice President Joe Biden over the strategy in Afghanistan. He revealed that, after meeting in the Oval Office with Obama, Biden pulled him aside to dismiss reports that he wants to shrink the U.S. military footprint in Afghanistan. "The vice president grabbed me and said, 'You should know that I am 100% supportive of this policy,' " Petraeus told the committee. "And I said that I am reassured to hear that." Biden was even going to dinner at Petraeus' house Tuesday to discuss the matter further, the general said. By choosing Petraeus, Obama put in Women NFL Jerseys place one of the few military officers with the standing to match or even exceed that of Biden and other civilians in the debate next year over how quickly to draw down U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Still, even Petraeus, with his finely tuned political instincts, could not completely quash signs of tension. In one revealing moment, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) got Petraeus to confirm that neither he nor anyone else in uniform had recommended the July 2011 deadline set by Obama for starting to bring troops home. "General, at any time ¡ was there a recommendation from you or anyone in the military that we set a date of July 2011?" McCain asked. "There was not," Petraeus said. Petraeus emphasized his support for the deadline as a way to focus the attention of the Afghan government. And he said the pace of the drawdown will be determined by conditions in Afghanistan next year. Petraeus also skipped lightly over tensions with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, whose relations with Washington have suffered periodic strains. Petraeus said he has NFL Kids Jerseys spoken with Karzai three times since his nomination, most recently by phone during the car ride Tuesday morning to Capitol Hill. Despite the difficulties ahead, senators on both sides of the aisle welcomed Petraeus' willingness to return to commanding troops. It was a rare bipartisan consensus. 6/30/2010 - Padres' physicians, pharmacies investigated

Agents of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration on Tuesday served search warrants on physicians and pharmacies affiliated with two San Diego professional sports teams. According to a report published in the Vibram Five Fingers 2010 New Los Angeles Times, agents want to check records of controlled substances maintained by the physicians and pharmacies with connections to the Padres and the Chargers, as part of an ongoing investigation triggered by the arrest last month of a former member of the NFL team. 6/21/2010 - Lapses Found in Oversight of Failsafe Device on Oil Rig

It was the last line of defense, the final barrier between the rushing volcanic fury of oil and gas and one of the worst environmental disasters in United States history. Its very name ¡ª the NFL Carolina Panthers blind shear ram ¡ª suggested its blunt purpose. When all else failed, if the crew of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig lost control of a well, if a dreaded blowout came, the blind shear ram¡¯s two tough blades were poised to slice through the drill pipe, seal the well and save the day. Everything else could go wrong, just so long as ¡°the pinchers¡± went right. All it took was one mighty stroke. On the night of April 20, minutes after an enormous blowout ripped through the Deepwater Horizon, the rig¡¯s desperate crew pinned all hope on this last line of defense. But the line did not hold. For days, technicians and engineers worked furiously to figure out why, according to interviews and NFL Chicago Bears hundreds of pages of previously unreleased notes scrawled by industry crisis managers in the disaster¡¯s immediate aftermath. Engineers sent robotic submersibles 5,000 feet deep to prod the blind shear ram, nestled in the bosom of a five-story blowout preventer standing guard over the Macondo well. They were driven on, documents and interviews reveal, by indications that the shear ram¡¯s blades had come within a few maddening inches of achieving their purpose. Again and again, they tried to make the blades close completely, knowing it was their best chance to end the nightmare of oil and gas billowing into the Gulf of Mexico. ¡°If that would¡¯ve worked,¡± a senior oil industry executive said of the blind shear ram, ¡°that rig wouldn¡¯t have burned up and sunk.¡± Much remains unknown about the failure of this ultimate failsafe device. It continues to be a focus of inquiries, and some crucial questions will not be answerable until the NFL Cincinnati Bengals blowout preventer is recovered from the sea. But from documents and interviews, it is possible to piece together some of the decisions and events that came into play when the Deepwater Horizon most needed the blind shear ram. Engineers contended with hydraulic fluid leaks that may have deprived the ram of crucial cutting force. They struggled to comprehend what was going on in the steel sarcophagus that encased the shear ram, as if trying to perform surgery blindfolded. 6/20/2010 - France players refuse to train in protest at WCup

KNYSNA, South Africa ¡ª France's World Cup team refused to train Sunday in protest of Nicolas Anelka's expulsion from the squad. Anelka was kicked off the team a day earlier for a profanity-laced tirade against coach Air Jordan 6 aymond Domenech, whose tactics and management skills have been called into question. "The French Football Federation did not at any time try to protect the group. They took a decision uniquely based on facts reported by the press," Domenech said, reading from a statement written by the players explaining their protest. "As a consequence and to show our opposition to the decision taken by officials of the federation, all the players decided not to take part in today's training session." The latest chaotic scene also led to the resignation of France team director Jean-Louis Valentin. "It's a scandal for the French, for the young people here. It's a scandal for the federation and the French team," Valentin said. "They don't want to train. It's unacceptable. "As for me, it's over. I'm leaving the federation. I'm sickened and disgusted," said Air Jordan 7 lentin, who walked away from the training field, got into a car and drove off. The team arrived at training as usual Sunday and got off the bus to greet fans, but Domenech and France captain Patrice Evra stayed on the bus to talk. When Domenech and Evra finally disembarked, fitness coach Robert Duverne was on the field putting down training cones. Evra and Duverne began to argue and Domenech walked over to intervene. Duverne then stormed off, throwing his accreditation badge to the ground. Evra then handed a letter to the press officer, and the players, en masse, boarded the team bus and drew the curtains. In their first two matches at the World Cup, France drew 0-0 with Uruguay and then lost 2-0 to Air Jordan 8 exico. 6/5/2010 - 'Fustanella' is N.Va. teen's killer bee word

The 13-year-old walked comfortably toward the microphone early Friday afternoon, down the bright red carpet of the stage in the Grand Hyatt Washington ballroom. A video camera on a long pole followed his every step. The bright lights beat warmly on his face. The crowd clapped. Last year, Tim Ruiter of Centreville tied for second place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. He NFL Baltimore Ravens vowed then to study, return and win. Wednesday he aced a first-round written test. Thursday he correctly spelled "canap¨¦" and "paparazzo." Then came his first word in the semifinals: "fustanella." "Fustanella," Tim slowly repeated. "Um, what does it mean?" Tim was new to the tournament last year, but he beat out dozens of other super-spellers to make it to the final round, which is televised on ABC during prime time. Viewers rooted for the Virginia kid with shaggy brown hair and glasses, who fidgeted with his hands as he spelled such words as "oriflamme" and "sophrosyne." But then came "Maecenas" (a generous benefactor). Tim guessed "Mycenus." This year's competition was his last shot at the national title. In the fall, he will start his freshman year at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, after years of being home-schooled, and will no longer be eligible to take part. To prepare, Tim studied long lists of words prepared by a family friend and used a spelling bee NFL Buffalo Bills computer program. And then there were the 20,000 flashcards he printed out from the family's home computer. The national bee is a celebration of something so arguably nerdy that it has become cool. For several years, ESPN has broadcast the early rounds of competition with a level of dedication and seriousness usually reserved for football, and ABC has put the final round on its prime-time broadcast. Last year, the final round attracted an average of 6.1 million viewers, according to ABC. This year, 273 students from around the world qualified for the national round. That included nine students from Maryland, 13 from Virginia and one from the District. Two area students were ousted in the semifinals: Tim and Sarah Anne Allen of Waynesboro, Va. Lanson T. NFL Carolina Panthers Tang of Potomac made it to the finals. He was stumped by the word "leishmanic," an adjective that refers to the characteristics of a parasitic disease. By the second round of the live finals, only four spellers remained. By the third and final round, Anamika Veeramani of North Royalton, Ohio, stood alone. Anamika, 14, then won the bee by correctly spelling "stromuhr," an instrument that measures the amount and speed of  blood flow through an artery. 5/29/2010 - 189 Nations Reaffirm Goal of Ban on Nuclear Weapons

UNITED NATIONS ¡ª Hard-fought negotiations over the future of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty ended here on Friday with 189 nations reaffirming their commitment to eliminating all nuclear weapons and setting a new 2012 deadline for holding a regional conference to eliminate unconventional weapons from the Middle East. The complicated 28-page final document from the treaty review conference calls for the Nike Air Jordan United Nations secretary general, along with the United States, Russia and Britain, to appoint a facilitator and consult with the countries of the Middle East convening the conference. That goal was considered the landmark achievement of the negotiations, aside from reaffirming the basic premise of the treaty. Review conferences are held every five years and the last one, in 2005, ended in disarray, the gap between states with nuclear weapons and those without too wide to bridge. Given the current tense realities in the Middle East, senior government officials and diplomats on all sides conceded that even calling such a conference, much less accomplishing any of its goals, remained a distant prospect. ¡°People are not going to come to a disarmament conference voluntarily if they are at war with their neighbors,¡± said Ellen O. Tauscher, the under secretary of state for arms control and international security affairs, who led the American delegation. Washington¡¯s support for such a conference does not supersede the longstanding United States policy that disarmament requires a comprehensive peace in the region first, she said. But in Cheap Jordan Shoes  1995 Arab states accepted the indefinite extension of the nonproliferation treaty, in exchange for a commitment for such a Middle East conference. Since there had been no movement on the issue for 15 years, Ambassador Maged Abdelaziz of Egypt had made it clear from the outset that fellow Arab states and the nonaligned movement demanded some concrete steps to support the document this year. Tensions over the content of the final document after a month of negotiations went down to the wire, with diplomats portraying the last few days as a poker game with the United States and Iran each trying to call the other¡¯s bluff so that one might be blamed for the failure of the conference to reach consensus. In the end, the United States accepted one reference to Israel in the final document, in the section on the Middle East, which basically repeats a previously stated position that Israel should join the 40-year-old nonproliferation treaty. The Israeli Mission to the United Nations would not comment on the outcome. The Israeli Basketball Shoes  government has never confirmed the widespread consensus that it holds at least 100 nuclear missiles. The document also emphasizes the need for countries to respect treaty guidelines for keeping their nuclear programs open to international inspection and suffering the consequences if they do not. Such measures are likely to strengthen the Security Council¡¯s stand in its current confrontation with Iran over possible new sanctions because of suspicions that it is trying to develop nuclear weapons, which Tehran vehemently denies. ¡°My guess is that language caused the Iranians pretty significant heartburn even though they decided to go along with it,¡± said Gary Samore, the White House coordinator for unconventional weapons. Much of Friday was spent waiting to hear if Iran would accept the final document. Diplomats said that the Air Jordan 1  conference chairman, Libran N. Cabactulan of the Philippines, even called the leaders of Brazil and Turkey, temporary Security Council members who have been trumpeting their ability to reach a compromise with Iran, to prevail on Tehran not to foil the agreement. 5/19/2010 - U.S., partners agree to sanctions on Iran

The United States reached agreement Tuesday with Russia, China and other major powers on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution that would modestly expand and stiffen sanctions on Iran for its failure to abandon its nuclear ambitions. The 10-page resolution in many Air Jordan 14 ways falls short of the Obama administration's stated objective to impose "crippling sanctions" on Iran, but it gives new momentum to the sanctions push one day after Turkey and Brazil -- two junior Security Council members -- swooped in with their own deal with Iran to forestall new penalties on the Islamic republic. Among other measures, the resolution would expand an asset freeze and travel ban against individuals and entities linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps. A critical element still to be negotiated is a list of those names. The resolution would establish an embargo on large weapons systems such as battle tanks, combat aircraft and missiles -- a previous U.N. resolution called on nations only to "exercise vigilance and restraint" in such trade -- but would not include the comprehensive arms Air Jordan 15 embargo sought by the United States and France. Iran could continue to buy light weapons. 'An answer' to Tehran "This announcement is as convincing an answer to the efforts undertaken by Tehran over the last few days as any we could provide," said Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who finalized the deal and its announcement Tuesday morning in a phone call with her Russian counterpart. "We don't believe it was any accident that Iran agreed to this declaration as we were preparing to move forward in New York." But Brazilian and Turkish officials were outraged at Clinton's announcement just one day after they had secured a pledge from Iran to ship some of its stockpile of low-enriched uranium to Turkey. Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, the Brazilian ambassador to the United Nations, denounced the U.S. move, saying that Brazil "will not engage on any Air Jordan 16 draft resolution" and that there "is still room for negotiations." The reaction signified potential difficulties ahead in winning unanimous approval for the resolution. Three previous sanctions resolutions on Iran were approved without any "no" votes -- usually, a draft agreement among the five permanent members of the council faces little opposition from the 10 rotating members -- and anything less than that would represent a fracturing of international unity on Iran. "The United States just slapped Turkey and Brazil in the face and spit on them afterwards," said Mohammad Marandi, head of the North American studies department at Tehran University, whose views on the nuclear issue are close to those of Iran's leaders. "Iran is rational, but the U.S. is throwing a tantrum." With U.S. key partners The Obama administration and its key partners on Iran -- Britain, France and Germany -- have always made clear that U.N. action would be the weakest of three steps intended to force Iran to return to negotiations on its nuclear program. Those other steps include a European Union resolution and then tough unilateral sanctions by individual countries. But nothing can happen without the imprimatur of a new U.N. resolution, because some European countries will not act on sanctions without U.N. approval. Diplomats said that some of sanctions were proposed with the full knowledge they would be removed by the Russians and Chinese -- but then could be revived in an E.U. resolution. Individual country sanctions could follow, and would be led by the United States and like-minded nations. The draft cites recent Iranian activities, such as the construction of an undisclosed nuclear facility near Qom and the enrichment of uranium to levels of nearly 20 percent, and Air Jordan 17 reaffirms previous Security Council demands that Iran suspend uranium enrichment and fully cooperate with International Atomic Energy Agency. It also stresses that penalties would be lifted if Iran halts banned nuclear activities. The draft specifically says that nothing in it should be construed as allowing the "use of force or the threat of force." The resolution would establish a "framework" for inspections of suspect cargo at sea or in ports. Vessels would be inspected if there are "reasonable grounds" to believe they are carrying banned goods, but there is no mandatory requirement that Iranian vessels suspected of carrying banned materials be boarded. Moreover, financial institutions that establish "reasonable grounds" to believe Iranian banks or other firms are evading sanctions are called upon to block any financial transactions, including the issuance of insurance or reinsurance, related to banned proliferation activities. Countries are obligated to require their nationals to "exercise vigilance" in business dealings with Iranian firms. The Obama administration failed to win Air Jordan 18 approval for key proposals it had sought, including restrictions on Iran's lucrative oil trade, a comprehensive ban on financial dealings with the Guard Corps and a U.S.-backed proposal to halt new investment in the Iranian energy sector.
